I’m entitling today’s message, “Behold your King.” I have borrowed that title. I didn’t come up with it. It is a title which refers to the Messiah. That title is found in 2 different places in our Bible. The first comes from the Old Testament book of Zechariah.

He is King of the storm. He is King of nature. He is King or Lord of all! And nature cannot destroy it’s creator.

Matthew has been telling us in the account of the calming of the storm that Jesus is Lord of nature. Now he uses this true account to tell us that Jesus is also Lord of the unseen realm of angels and demons. His authority of all things is complete and absolute.

In this second round of miracles we find that Matthew now wants us to think beyond the fact that Jesus heals. In showing us Jesus’ authority, first over the storm and then second over the unseen relm of the demonic and now His authority over the souls of men and women

What people need is not another religious tradition based on the teachings of men. They need acceptance and mercy. And in order to give them mercy you need a new wineskin, you need a religious structure that welcomes sinners!
