We have a confidence that in the midst of our sufferings we are coming to know Christ and in our sufferings we are identifying with Him in his sufferings. Furthermore we are confident that God will only bring those matters into our lives, which are for His glory and our long term good, a good, which is hidden in His glory.

If you want to know the secret of rejoicing in God you will have to reorient your thinking about God. You will also have to begin to look at evil and good in a new light, in the light of an utterly glorious, righteous, loving and sovereign God. A God who uses evil for His own purposes and for the long term good of His people. That is what the book of Habakkuk is designed to help us do.

Believers neither cower before their enemies, nor do they breathe out resentments and threats. Ours is a quiet confidence not in ourselves but in the glory of God.

What we need with our fear of the evil is the solution of a revelation of God’s matchless glory. This is what you must long for and plead with God for. Will you do that?

“Habakkuk is standing before the Promised Land, and allowed to see it from a distance. Oh, I don’t mean he sees Israel, no he sees the New Jerusalem. He sees the day when Satan’s wicked kingdom of Babylon falls, and when God’s Kingdom vanquishes all evil.”
