It kind of feels like we’re just hopping around Israel, doesn’t it?

Today’s been so good.

Do you ever wonder what Jesus was like as a kid? Perhaps you imagined Jesus as a child while walking around Nazareth today. Surely, thinking about this definitely peaks our interest, at least for me! I even wonder what Jesus looked like. I highly doubt he looked anything like what Hollywood portrays him as! But if we’re being serious, what he looked like doesn’t at all matter.

There are probably many more, but I can think of three instances in Scripture that speak to the truth that we don’t need to see Jesus to better our faith.

Firstly, there’s the story of the Roman Centurion in Luke 7:1-10. Without going into too much detail, Jesus commended his “great faith” even though he never literally saw Jesus – at least in this story. Jesus even said that he hadn’t known anyone in all of Israel with such a faith as his. This, in part, proves that “great faith” can come without physical sight.

Secondly, there’s Jesus’ words in John 20:29, after he was resurrected. At the end of his encounter with Thomas, he said, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” Jesus makes two strong points here. One, there’s the ability to believe in Jesus without seeing Jesus, and two, those who do believe in Jesus without seeing him are blessed. I hope that’s you!

And thirdly, at the beginning of Peter’s first letter to the “elect exiles,” he writes, “Though you have not seen him [Jesus], you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” (1 Peter 1:8-9) We may think that our love and joy for God would increase if we were walking around with Jesus two thousand years ago, but this passage breaks that thinking! An incredible love and an indescribable joy can be found in someone who believe in Jesus without seeing him.

Well, I’m done for the night. I hope you get a good sleep for tomorrow!

PS – Let’s be “biblically aware” with these Scriptures read for tomorrow: for the Mount of Olives, read 2 Samuel 15:30-31, Zechariah 14:1-5, Matthew 24:1-51, 26:30-35, Luke 21:37; for the Garden of Gethsemane, read Matthew 26:36-56; for the City of David, read 2 Samuel 5:6-9, 6:1-15, Luke 2:1-11
