Hey friends!

This morning we left the mountainous region of Delphi (where Mount Parnassus is) and began our long journey northeast towards the tip of the Aegean Sea. As I said yesterday, 80% of Greece is mountains. For some reason I never imagined Greece to be like that! But as we were driving through the mainland today, I was surprised at how similar it looked to driving through BC’s mountainous areas.

Anyways, if you’re curious as to what I see in my bus, here you go! (You can also see the dense trees through the windows).

We then reached the Aegean sea. If you’re unfamiliar with where that is, check this out.

We arrived in Thessaloniki (ancient Thessalonia) and drove to a high point to get a good look. Below is a photo of both the city with the Aegean in the background, a photo of Dr. John teaching on Thessalonia, as well as a photo of our entire tour team together!

If you don’t quite remember the significance of Thessalonia, just read the first ten or so verses of Acts 17. You’ll remember why this city was so important. If you’re really interested, look through 1 & 2 Thessalonians to see what Paul was writing to the church that was in this place. I just read through 1 Thessalonians again today, and it’s a great letter.

After that we visited a museum where we saw many ancient artifacts dating back anywhere between 300 BC to 500 AD (give or take). This first photo is one of the museum’s proudest finds – a huge vase that’s extremely well crafted. I think I heard the tour guide say that it was used to mix water with wine. Could be wrong there! The second photo is one of the mosaics that was found. I love mosaics.

We finally arrived in Kavala, another 2.5 hours away from Thessaloniki, but still on the coast of the Aegean. We’re at an amazing hotel right on the sea. We’re here for two nights, so I’ll have to get some pictures of this place for tomorrow. It’s beautiful. Kavala is located near the ancient city of Neapolis, the second city Paul and Silas visited on sailing over to Macedonia from Troas (Acts 16:11).

Tomorrow we head to Philippi (really looking forward to that), and also the river in which Lydia was converted.

Looking forward to getting some pictures and stories!
